Let’s Talk Tomb Raider

Around the time when movie studios were releasing their films early on digital download so people who are quarantined at home would have something to watch, XboX had a great idea to have a sale on some of their games and I took advantage of said sale.

I bought both Tomb Raider, and Rise of the Tomb Raider. Both were remastered for the XboX One and for the low price of eight bucks I couldn’t pass up that deal… I played these two games in the past and enjoyed them, specially Tomb Raider (2013).

When starting Tomb Raider I couldn’t wait to get to certain stages like Shipwreck Beach that stage is beautiful. You have a huge abandoned ship to explore and have a mini boss fight just to get into the ship. I enjoyed the overall story and the adventure getting to the end. I just wish this game had more to it like extras levels or more side quests.

Rise of the Tomb Raider (2015) felt like a choir to finish the first time around and that feeling came back when playing it again. There’s so much back tracking, I been through the Soviet Installation so many times I lost count and I enjoyed having the game take place in a snow environment but 70% of the game of it is kinda much. I looked forward to the stages where you’re in a forest. The combat system I had fun with being stealth and surprising your enemies, jumping out of water and pulling them in, dropping from high points and boom dead. After finishing the game you can explore Croft Manor in a side mission finding out secrets about the Croft family, artifacts, etc.

When Shadow of the Tomb Raider was released in 2018 I was ready to revisit Lara Croft and see what adventures came next and what I can say is I wasn’t disappointed. The opening with Lara and Jonah in Mexico with the Day of the Dead festival going on was awesome, sure all you do is walk around but the atmosphere was incredible. The ending boss fight against Dominguez took me awhile to win but it’s worth the fight. Also, how cool looking is Crimson Fire. Woo! She’s a hot mess… What I enjoyed the most about this game are the flashbacks and Lara exploring her manor inside and out. She had a bad ass treehouse setup.

The Crimson Fire

I hope a fourth installment is in the works you can have countless adventures with Lara Croft and if Square Enix is backing the project it will be another good game.

Since I’m this deep into talking Tomb Raider here’s my history with the series. I was never a PlayStation kid, always Nintendo. But my first Tomb Raider game I played was Tomb Raider II I put a good couple days into it but never finished it. The next game I played was Tomb Raider: Legends but it was only for twenty mins because it was a demo for the 360.

As for the movies, the two Angelina Jolie starred in were alright for action movies and I did like the 2018 reboot, it took a lot from the 2013 game… Fun Fact: The actress who voices Lara Croft (Camilla Luddington) in the Tomb Raider games also plays Jo Wilson, you know she married Alex Karev (Grey’s Anatomy).
